The Board: The Parks, Recreation and Tree Advisory Board (PRTAB) advises City Council on issues related to our City's parks and other open spaces, trees, and recreational opportunities. The PRTAB provides review, advice and recommendations on the updating and implementation of the City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Functional Plan. Agendas and minutes can be found on the City's website. For information about serving on the PRTAB, see Resolution 09-029. An application form to serve on the Board can be downloaded here. The PRTAB is involved in the process underway to consider the development of a Metropolitan Parks District.
Parks: Port Townsend is a community enriched by parks and open spaces. Our public park inventory includes numerous pocket parks, neighborhood parks, an historic and beloved community park and spectacular natural open space parks as well as many special use areas. Check out an interactive and downloadable list and map of our City parks and facilities on the Parks Department page.
Trees: Port Townsend adopted Ordinance 2837 in 2003 in compliance with the City's status as a National Arbor Day Foundation 'TreeCity USA' city. With Resolution 09-029 the City Council combined the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Tree Committee to form the current PRTAB. The Board has prepared a draft Significant Trees Brochure to be used for Arbor Day 2013 tree walks and bicycle tours. Download a copy here. Your comments on the draft would be welcome. Recreation: The 'R' in PRTAB includes the Skateboard Park, the YMCA, Mountain View Commons and Mountain View Pool. Information about pool hours of operation and programs, activities and news can be found on the pool's website. Information about the County's Memorial Field and Community Recreation Center in the City can be found on the County Rec site.
Adopt A Park: Some of our parks have been adopted by groups of volunteers. If you would be interested in adopting a park in your neighborhood, contact prt.porttownsend@gmail.com for more information. An application for Adopt A Park can be downloaded here.
Volunteer: Copies of the volunteer handbook and volunteer application can be downloaded. For information about volunteer opportunities to improve and maintain our parks and pool, email prt.porttownsend@gmail.com. As work parties are scheduled, they will be posted in the 'Latest News' section of the City website's home page.
