Plastic Bag Ban goes into effect November 1, 2012

The City of Port Townsend’s Single Use Carry-Out Bag Ordinance (commonly known as the "plastic bag ban"), approved in July, goes into effect November 1, 2012.  It is a step forward in reducing litter and unnecessary waste, and protecting water and wildlife, by reducing the use of plastic bags in our community.   The ordinance does two key things.  It affects a ban on single use plastic bags and it encourages use of reusable bags (by placing a 5 cent charge on large paper grocery bags).  For additional information concerning how the bag ban will affect you, see the documents below.
