Officer Hansen - Life Saving Award

Officer Hansen receiving award

On October 13, 2022, around 1630 hours, Officer Trevor Hansen responded to a call of CPR in progress for possible drug overdose of a 28-year-old male on the beach near Chetzemoka Park. The father of the victim was on scene and performing CPR. When Officer Hansen arrived on scene, he grabbed his medical pack and ran through the park to the beach.  Officer Hansen ran down the beach approximately 100 yards before he located the victim. The victim was unconscious and unresponsive and his father was performing CPR.

Officer Hansen swiftly administered one dose Narcan to the victim and them took over CPR from the father. A short time later a second dose of Narcan was administered. Hansen continued performing CPR until East Jefferson Fire Department (EJFR) medics arrived on-scene and continued with CPR. The victim regained a pulse after 10-15 minutes of lifesaving measures by all parties. The young man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, where he recovered and was released several days later. I believe that Officer Hansen’s swift and decisive actions were crucial to the saving of this young man’s life. I am very proud to call Officer Hansen a Port Townsend Police Officer.   Chief Thomas Olson
