PRESS RELEASE - City of Port Townsend hires Finance and Technology Services Director

Jodi Adams, City resident and former City of Bainbridge Island and Jefferson County manager, to start April 15.

PORT TOWNSEND – The City of Port Townsend is pleased to announce the hire of Jodi Adams, our new Director of Finance and Technology Services.

Ms. Adams, a city resident, starts with the City on April 15. She has broad experience in the public and private sectors as a leader and manager. Ms. Adams recently served as the Permit and Administration Supervisor for the City of Bainbridge Island and, previous to that role, as a manager with Jefferson County, and has experience as an accountant, budget analyst, and fiscal technician.

Ms. Adams’ hire comes at a time when the City has made substantial progress on an integrated approach to financial sustainability and during a time of unparalleled cooperation amongst regional agencies. City Manager John Mauro says: “I’m thrilled to bring a talented professional and strategic leader like Jodi into our City team. In her interviews and her previous work, she’s demonstrated her stand-out abilities to bring people and teams together to solve difficult problems, to think and innovate across multiple disciplines, and to provide quality and reliable services to the communities she serves. The City interview panels and previous employers also praise her intelligence, communication acumen, problem solving skills, abilities to build and lead teams, and professionalism. Jodi will be warmly welcomed into the City team and will add value to our team and community on day one.”

Beyond leading, managing, and directing the Finance team, the Finance and Technology Services Director is responsible for driving strategic approaches to accounting, finance, budgeting, and technology services. The director provides advice and counsel to City staff, management, City Council, and the City Manager on finance, budget, and/or technology issues. The director also interprets, develops, implements, and administers policies, procedures, and agreements and supports the City Manager and all Department Directors concerning budget and fiscal matters. Meeting statutory requirements like the development of a balanced budget and completion of regular state audits strongly depends on the director and Finance team. Moreover, new strategic approaches like the Financial Sustainability Initiative and implementation of the new Transportation Benefit District are strongly guided by the director and her team, and are a result of strategic leadership across several departments. This spirit of innovation and collaboration is part of what made Ms. Adams a great fit for the role.

Jodi Adams says: “I’m excited to be working in Port Townsend again, regaining the sense of place I feel when I serve the town and the people I care about. I’ve enjoyed meeting the City team and feel privileged to join a group of ambitious, dynamic, and collaborative people committed to serving the community.”
